The destination is the motive for the journey ... Situated on the foot of the Mainalon, Dara is an off-the-beaten-track destination. One of the most beautiful villages in the Arcadian land, it is perched on a cove formed by three hills in the area of Mantinia in Mountainous Arcadia, only a short distance from Levidi offering a magnificent view to the green valley of Dara which is crossed by the rivers Mylaontas and Tragos; a valley that abounds in old bridges, antique castles, rare vegetation and natural beauty.
As it is found at a close range to the rest of the mountainous resorts, such as Vytina, Dimitsana, Stemnitsa and Levidi, only 185 km from Athens, the village constitutes an ideal base for outings and mountain activities on theMainalon Ski Centre, just 18 km away or the Kalavryta Ski Centre, just 60 km away.
Other nearby destinations include Ladonas Lake and the Cave of the Lakesthat offer a multitude of activities and routes to enjoy.
The village of Dara belongs to the municipality of Tripoli that has incorporated the old Municipality of Nasson whose centre was Dara. Pausanias, the renowned Greek geographer, mentions it in his work describing it as ‘so-called Nassous’ in 174-176 AD.
With approximately 260 inhabitants, it is one of the liveliest villages in Arcadia. Locals deal in agriculture, apiculture and raise cattle and sheep.
If your choice for a holiday is Dara, the only thing that may disturb your peace and quiet is the rustling of the leaves, the chirping of the birds and the murmuring of running waters. We’re looking forward to seeing you!
